Moxibustion and Cupping
Moxibustion and cupping are often used in conjunction with acupuncture.
Moxibustion is used to bring warmth to cold areas of body and is a way of stimulating acupuncture points. Moxa (dried mugwort/artemisia) is held over a point to gently warm the skin, or cones can be placed on the acupuncture needle.
Cupping is often used to help ease muscle tension. A vacuum is created in a glass container using a flame and placed on the skin to create suction which most patients say they find strange but pleasant.
